The Grade 2 listed Bristol South swimming pool dates from 1931, the architect Charles Dening having based his design on those of the London bath houses. It was the local authorityâₒs target (yes! they had targets even in the 1930s!) for every resident to be within a mile of a swimming pool, to cater for the between wars popularity of swimming and also provide slipper bath facilities.
No doubt this would have been appreciated by the ˜Wills girlsâₒ who staffed the nearby Wills tobacco factory âₓ and who may even have enjoyed the additional entertainment provided by Dolphin displays! The Neoclassical design is based on brown brick with limestone dressings, and the pantile hipped roof gives it a faintly exotic appearance.
When the roof over the office sections needed replacing, it was clearly desirable to introduce insulation at the same time âₓ yet given the fact it was a boarded roof which could not be raised significantly, were there any options available?
TLX Gold can be used on boarded roofs by draping it over a 50mm counter batten, exactly as would be done for a Breather Membrane alone. It was able to improve the thermal performance of the roof over these office sections without having to worry about any possible condensation risk, given the proximity of the high humidity part of the building adjacent.
