5 Reasons To Insulate With TLX Silver Multifoil Insulation

As much as one-fifth of the heat in your home is lost through your roof, so if you are
focusing on keeping your heat in your home and minimising your heating bills as a result, roof insulation should be considered essential. TLX Silver multifoil insulation is one of the UK’s leading products when it comes to multifoil insulation technology TLX Silver is designed to keep buildings warm in the winter months and cool during the summer months.

Here are 5 reasons why you should insulate with TLX Silver multifoil insulation:

Space Saving Insulation

TLX Silver is a space-saving insulation. For this reason, TLX Silver is considered a fantastic space-saving solution for loft conversions where head height is limited. It provides all the benefits of a vapour barrier, whilst also increasing thermal performance and all within a product that is just 30mm thick.

Perhaps the most common usage for TLX Silver is in pitched roofs. Simply install TLX Silver beneath the rafters, fixed in place with 38x38mm battens. Setting the battens crosswise will limit thermal bridging and improve thermal efficiency. It creates an excellent airtight vapour barrier which limits condensation risk, plus its shiny outer layers reflect heat. Additionally, install a PIR board or mineral wool in between the rafters for added thermal benefit. No matter where you choose to install TLX Silver insulation, you will find that it is much thinner and much better at saving space than other insulation products such as PIR board or mineral wool. When these products are used on their own, they are very bulky in order to reach the required U-Value

Before it is installed, it’s worth noting that TLX Silver is sold in rolls which is another space-saving solution as these are compact and easy to store. The rolls must be stored on a flat dry surface, protected from the weather and direct sunlight.

2-in-1 Multifoil Insulation

How to install TLX Silver in a barn conversion

TLX Silver multifoil insulation is a 2-in-1 insulating vapour barrier. This means that it helps to achieve greater thermal efficiency when used correctly. TLX Silver is a vapour barrier, so it stops moisture from the house entering the rafter/stud zone.

One of the main reasons builders and homeowners like to use a 2-in-1 vapour barrier, is because they prevent damp from forming. Damp is a serious and widespread problem. It is also one that can easily be avoided by using the right multifoil insulation. Avoiding damp is essential and important because it can cause health issues for those individuals residing inside a damp home, including respiratory infections, increased allergy risk, or asthma.

All properties will carry a damp risk and a condensation risk. By using a multifoil that has a 2-in-1 insulating vapour barrier such as TLX Silver will considerably reduce the likelihood of experiencing condensation buildup in a roof or wall space.

Reflective Insulation

TLX Insulation is a highly reflective multifoil insulation. Most multifoils are reflective, but this is worth drawing attention to because it is the reflective nature of TLX Silver that provides much of its insulator properties. Some multifoil insulations are only reflective on one side but TLX Silver is reflective on both the outer and inner layers. This means that it can reflect infrared radiation back into the house when it’s cold or prevent it from entering the house when it’s warm.

TLX Silver is considered a premium multifoil because, between its reflective layers, it also has wadding layers inside. The purpose of these layers is to ensure that the two different layers of foil don’t act as a conductor. Instead, the layers of wadding layers trap air, prevent heat loss, and protect the property from three different types of heat transfer. These three different types of heat transfer that TLX silver can protect against are radiation, conduction and convection

TLX Silver is an incredibly versatile product that can be used for roof insulation, pitched roof insulation and wall insulation.

Easy to Install

TLX Silver multifoil insulation is incredibly easy to install. It comes in rolls which can be
How to install TLX Silver insulationsimply laid under the rafters or on the inner face of a wall.

When installing TLX Silver, the product is unrolled below the rafters in horizontal layers, parallel to the eaves. The product should be installed from ridge to eaves, and over or under-lapped to ensure that any water inside the rafter space runs down and does not penetrate the insulation or the rafter space. Once it has been unrolled and is in the correct position, TLX Silver should then be held in place using either nails or staples. These nails or staples should have at least a 14 mm depth.

The next roll of TLX Silver must overlap the preceding layer by at least 50 mm. The overlap should be sealed along the entire length using an approved adhesive tape. The installation is as simple as that!

Thin Multifoil Insulation

At 30 mm thick, TLX Silver is the perfect thickness for multifoil insulation. This makes it one of the thinner multifoil insulation products on the market. We believe that 30 mm is the perfect thickness for multifoil insulation. If it was any thinner, it would lose considerable thermal benefits. If it was any thicker, it would give limited additional performance. Therefore, you would be adding bulk to your installation for no real reason.

When used as part of a hybrid system with a PIR board or mineral wool, TLX Silver delivers optimum thermal performance, helping to adhere to U-Value regulations. The best way to achieve the lowest possible U-Value with TLX Silver multifoil insulation is to use it as part of a hybrid system alongside additional insulation. When utilised in this way, TLX Silver multifoil insulation can be used to reach U-Values as low as 0.11 W/m2k.
